photoDanny turns 30!!! After Dark (aka “Danny”) has turned 30 years old this
month (going by Thoroughbred birthdays!). I bought him as a 4-year old
greenie (even after being bucked off the first time I rode him!), and
brought him through the levels of eventing where he became USCTA Area III’s
1992 High Score Training Level Horse all the way to USEA Area III and AHSA
Zone 4’s 1998 High Score Preliminary Champion. There were some bumps and
setbacks along the way but with patience and resolve (and some excellent
instruction!), we accomplished our goals before I decided to retire him when
he told me he didn’t want to event anymore at the age of 17 when he
developed a cataract in his eye and had lost his confidence.  He now enjoys
his retirement being a pasture mate to Brogan and Davey, and occasionally
gets ridden by a 11-year old girl who comes over to groom and love on him.

We celebrated his 30th birthday party on Saturday, Jan. 23rd at Faraway Farm
with 30 friends, lots of carrots and old videos, and a big carrot cake!
May he enjoy several more years of happy and healthy retirement!
